Parent Shield ("the App") is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe your personal messages and data should remain entirely under your control. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.
The short version: Your data never leaves your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit any of your personal information.
Information We Do NOT Collect
Parent Shield does not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your text messages or message content
- Your contacts or phone numbers
- Your location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Any personally identifiable information
How the App Works
SMS Access
Parent Shield requires permission to read SMS messages to provide its core functionality. This permission is used solely to:
- Read incoming text messages from contacts you have specifically selected to monitor
- Display message analysis and summaries within the App
- Store messages locally on your device for your reference
Important: Message content is processed and stored entirely on your device. No message data is ever transmitted to our servers or any third party.
On-Device AI Processing
The optional AI interpretation feature uses a machine learning model that runs entirely on your device. When you use this feature:
- The AI model is downloaded once and stored locally on your device
- All AI processing happens on your device using your phone's processor
- No message content is sent to any external server for AI processing
- AI-generated interpretations are stored only on your device
Local Data Storage
All App data is stored locally on your device using Android's secure storage mechanisms. This includes:
- Your selected monitored contacts
- Stored messages and their analyses
- App settings and preferences
- Downloaded AI model files
You can delete all locally stored data at any time by clearing the App's data in your device settings or by uninstalling the App.
Third-Party Services
Parent Shield does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The App does not contain ads and does not share data with any third parties.
The only external connection the App makes is to download the optional AI model from HuggingFace (huggingface.co). This download contains only the AI model files and does not transmit any of your personal data.
Data Security
Since all data remains on your device, your data's security is primarily protected by your device's own security measures, including:
- Device lock screen (PIN, pattern, fingerprint, or face unlock)
- Android's app sandboxing, which prevents other apps from accessing Parent Shield's data
- Device encryption (if enabled on your device)
We recommend keeping your device's operating system up to date and using a strong screen lock to protect your data.
Children's Privacy
Parent Shield is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age. The App is designed for adult co-parents to manage their communication. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect any of your data, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete from our systems. All your data is stored locally on your device, and you have complete control over it:
- Access: All your data is visible within the App on your device
- Deletion: Clear the App's data in device settings or uninstall the App
- Portability: Your data exists only on your device; you can back up your device using standard Android backup features
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
